Hi all,
I'm using 32bit AX system (windows Server 2003 x86, MS SQL 2005 x86, AX 2009 x86). Is it possible to replicate this system to x64 environment (Server 2003 x64, SqL 2005 X64 and AX 2009 x64)? What are the risks? If it is not possible, can you give me the best upgrade scenario?

Install sql server on target machine. Backup sql server on source machine and restore to target.

Install basic dynamics ax on target machine. Then using dynamics AX 2009 table from www.axaptapedia.com/Build_numbers install service pack and rollup correspondingly. You can determine your current version by Ax32Serv.exe version on old machine.

Move all application files from old machine to target machine application files (overwrite)

Configure server on target machine (everything should be as on source machine except sql server)

    That`s it.

So it's definitively possible, isn't it?. I successfully replicated my system on 32bit environment using above method but not sure on 64bit system. Thank you very much for your answer

It's definitively possible. Done it many times on our test environment (we moved around 20 applications from 32bit to 64bit)

No problem. Could you plese be so kind and mark this question as answered when done.

Thanks. It will take some time but I surely will. By the way, do we HAVE TO copy all application files (include sys,syp... layers) or just layers above DIS (BUS, VAR, CUS, USR)? I used the second option

That`s corect in most cases, because you installed SP + rollup. And  there is only one exception that I can think of. If you applied HOTFIXes, then you need include system AODs

Thank you very much Vukis. I've successfully replicated Ax 2009 x86  system to x64 one.
