Hi,
We have a 1 CRM server and a customer portal server and we are on our way to move all our infra to a different datacenter on the cloud and we will use an agent that will migrate the whole VM to the cloud portal then we can virtualize it with whatever inside, so my question actually what will be the process to make sure that the users will be connected to the new additional domain controller created on the different site once we virtualize the server? is there any changes need to be done on both servers? by the way the migration with the agent will be an easy task we want just to make sure that the users will be connected probably to the new site when shutting down the old AD, and make the new one the primary.
Thanks.
Hello Jack,
Sorry for the delay. About using a VPN yes it is possible since this will continue to be a private network, IFD is used in scenarios where you are exposing publicly your URL and need a secure way to access.
I don't think that you need to do any additional change on the servers, since CRM is a web application just make sure that name resolution, DNS, etc is correclty set and you should be fine.
Thanks.
Thanks Javier for info, that's clear however just to note that we have CRM 2011 and just wondering if the users can still use windows integrated authentication after moving to the cloud using VPN or still that IFD will be mandatory? because it's not available in the meantime and we don't have ADFS. And regarding that login form is it will be same experience as before or when added the IFD with ADFS it will be different? lastly the IP of the server and network will be changed does that will impact something on the system itself or do we need to change anything inside?
Thanks.
Hello Jack2020,
I understand that you are not changing domain name, just changing physical location and now a new domain controller in the new site will connect your users to the SAME domain. So no need to run the deployment wizard to map the existing users to the new domain.
When moving to the cloud or a remote location, you will need that your users now login using IFD (Internet Facing deployment) so each user will need an Internet connection and now they will login using a "Login form" where they will need to write their login credentials to access the CRM server.
This setting is laborious but straight-forward, this is documented starting here:
docs.microsoft.com/.../dn609803(v=crm.8)
Notice that if you did not have IFD before, you will need an ADFS server and a public SSL certificate.
I hope this information helps!
