ABC Classification by Hits

Since this is the distribution forum I thought I'd ask this question.

AX gives products and ABC classification. Its by Revenue or margin.

What about hits?

For instance I have a low margin/low revenue item, BUT it leaves the shelf often so we need to full fill orders. If we don't, we lose customers. This item is on many sales orders so despite quantity sold per order we look at the count of how often it goes on an order.

Those fast movers should be A items since they have constant hits on sales orders.

How does everyone in here determine what product is a fast mover and then classify it?

    Hello,

there is a common approach to determine fast/slow movers, please refer to classification inventory using FSN Analysis:

    wiki.scn.sap.com/.../Inventory+Analysis

There is no standard functionality provided in Dynamics AX 4.0/2009/2012 to classify products according to FSN Analysis, so if it's really required in your implementation please look forward to made your own customizations.

    Thanks Kabardian.

I find it ironic that you reference an SAP site.

Microsoft - This should be a feature in your product backlog for MANY reasons.

Not only does it help identify product needed to fill common orders that are low margin/low revenue but it helps in making decision on overall physical warehouse design. It helps answer the question of where should I place my bin/location for my fast moving items.

If Microsoft is truly committed to building AX for the distribution vertical here is a mandatory need that should be out of the box!

    Hi kwoznica,

The forum is not necessary monitored by Microsoft. If you want to provide feedback, you can use Microsoft Connect. http://connect.microsoft.com.

Agree it's quite ironic :-), but didn't meant to be.

The point is SAP site was the most relevant to the subject in the first ten results of Google on 'FSN analysis'.

I opened a request on Microsoft Connect, please feel free to vote up for such a feature here:
