How to get Dynamics Developer Tools Add-in for Visual Studio

Hey there experts,

I'm a beginner developer in Dynamics AX, I've worked with BI software and now I want to learn more about the ERP of Microsoft. I've started with Dynamics AX 2012 R2 and now I've a requirement to achieve a certification by doing the "Exam MB6-890 Microsoft Dynamics AX Development Introduction". To do this I need to follow the E-Learning 80730: Development Basics in Microsoft Dynamics AX, where I need to use a Visual Studio 2015 which have the add-in "Dynamics AX Dev Tools" installed. How can I get that Add-in? I've searched in this page, but it didn't help me at all:

https://ax.help.dynamics.com/en/wiki/dynamics-developer-tools-add-ins/

I really need to have an Azure Virtual Machine subscription or implement a AX7 CTP8 Virtual Machine in Hyper-V? If so, what is the system requirement needed for that Virtual Machine to run without problems or how much does it cost to have an Azure Virtual Machine for, lets say, one month?

I have already an account in AX and can access by browser and Virtual Studio 2015 installed in my system.

Best regards for all,

MB

You definitely shouldn't use CTP8 - it was a preview version before AX 7 was actually released.

As far as I know, you indeed have to use a machine configured by Microsoft (either in Azure or a local VM). If you have MSDN subscription, don't forget that you get some Azure credit every month you can use for that. The cost of Azure VM depends on the size you choose (see calculator). In general, you need relatively powerful (= expensive) box, but you don't have to run it for the whole month. Switch if it off when you don't use it and you won't be charged.

Regarding the VM, my Dev box currently consumes 13GB RAM after some time of active usage. (I've built a laptop with 32 GB of RAM and two SSD disks for AX 2012 Demo VMs and it's been a great investment in my opinion).
