Can customers directly access the AxDW (Entity Store) database in D365 F&O?

We are a customer using Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations via a vendor-developed environment. I would like to confirm whether customers are allowed to connect directly to the AxDW (Entity Store) database — for example, via Power BI Desktop using Azure SQL connection.

Has anyone here (customer-side) successfully gained access to AxDW directly? Or does it strictly depend on the vendor / system admin granting permissions in Azure SQL?

Any experience or confirmation from Microsoft engineers or MVPs would be appreciated.

Granted that I'm MVP as in Minimum Viable Product on the best of days, I work a bit with analytics at us (customer) and have some experience.

No, it's not possible and never will.

D365 FinOps (Cloud) is a fully SASS solution, and you will never be able to access the backing databases.

If you want to do reporting against the AxDW, you need to implement your reports as Embedded BI reports:

Some articles mention that you can trickle feed the entity store to a data warehouse, but that stuff is deprecated. Microsoft is investing heavily in Fabric at the moment, so that's the way the product is moving.
