Hi, we're planning on running Net Change Regen batches throughout the day to refresh the Master Planning and capture urgent client orders currently we can't run without it taking over 2hrs or failing .Is there a known stability issue with this, or a benchmark time for run completions, we're a medium sized business dealing with a SKU range of 9000 ? The idea is to run this at least 5 times a day ?

Any feedback or personal experience of this would be great.

It is not recommended to run it throughout the day from a Master Plan perspective because it locks tables and any processing on the main tables creates locks and slows the process.

The point of the dynamic plan is to capture these urgent orders, so sales orders being pushed would be seen, just not in the static plan until the next day. You can run the explosion form the "urgent" orders and react at that point as well to the plans.

You could also look at running a minimised plan on batch during the day, there are so many impacts before we even talk about hardware and dedicated AOS servers, so you have the time fences, action messages, future messages, negative and positive days and dynamic negative days, along with the coverage groups reflecting the items actual attributes like lead time.

I recommend you look at the dynamic plan options which capture net changes throughout the day, and the master plan options for a immediate run in the day if needed but with different parameters (i.e. would you have an "urgent" order for delivery in 30 days - potentially yes but then I would suggest you review your safety stock levels of components).

Absolutely agree, which is why Full Regen runs overnight, the dynamics of our industry ( medical sending direct to patients) means we will have emergency orders/prescriptions or new clients that need immediate attention, safety stocks won't deal with this, time fences and coverage groups etc are all set. Our turnaround on client orders is 24 to 48hrs we wouldn't even see an order 30 days in advance. The Scenario I'm looking at is a Stoma Care Patient that has an urgent need for medical goods needing to be shipped next day latest from the Care Centre in question, if the Care Centre is for any reason OOS of stock of the product, I need to see this straight away in the plan to action the planned purchase order or planned transfer from the depot.

Steve, it's the minimized plan I'm looking to run, I want this to run at the very least once during the day. We have 34 remote pharmacy licensed care centers, our consultants have told us the way to pull in this demand is to run the NET change regen batch or the Net Change Minimized batch during the day, understand the table lock down but if the batch runs quick enough it won't be an issue, however both the Net Change and the Net Change Minimized are taking over 2hrs to run which I think is unacceptable but have no benchmark to measure this against at the moment, have you run these batches, in your experience should they be taking that long considering they are the minimized versions ?

We have dedicated AOS servers running.

It is difficult to give a benchmark because there are so many variables. As you are already using me (a consultant) to hammer consultants I am reluctant to agree with you, but it does seem like a long time for 9000 SKU's but I dont have the details. Any BOM's for example - how far out are the time fences etc.

What I would suggest is slightly different approach - there is a sales line explosion that would push the requirement into the dynamic plan. You could modify this to be triggered at a certain point (assuming you do not get the operatives to manually run it) and then you have the daily alterations to you Care Centre for urgent OOS cases.

On the timing and runnings I would suggest you start to look at setting a new plan to run and look at the following elements:

1. Set the new plan to have an overriding time fence of 2 days or shorter to minimise where the plan looks.

2. Remove action and future messages (you could override the time fence in the plan to 0 rather than on each coverage group).

3. Helpers help the speed I am not sure what are requested, but also check how many were used. It makes no sense to have the number of threads requested by planning greater than the sum of available batch threads on all batch servers in the selected batch group that runs master planning. Is the batch server dedicated to MRP? If it is being run in the day and competing with other resources for the server it will slow performance.

4. In addition to point 3 if any other routine requiring locks on tables used by master planning (for example InventTrans, InventSumLogTTS, ReqItemTable, etc) is running at the same time as MRP it will slow it up – which is why running it in the day is not a true test of speed because other people are on the system using these tables and preventing MRP from processing adding to the time. However check no OTHER batch routines you run in the day are clashing with this.

6. In addition to point 3 using more AOSs during master planning will most likely improve the planning runtime. You have one dedicated one which should be fine.

7. How many tasks are in the task bundle, but this impacts on the helpers, which is again restricted by the available batch servers.

8. Try altering the cache parameter.

If points 1 and 2 are set to say 30 days and you are looking at action and future messages this will add time. Look at the log against a run plan to see the breakdown of where your time goes and then attack these chunks.

Hi,

No BOMS at all, I'm going to look at 1 and 2 as they make sense.

No other batches at the moment run during the day apparently, we're still in Pre Live status at the moment, I'll speak to the IT guys to see if the batch server is a dedicated one.

if you have large no of client orders incoming time to time in day then you can consider running Net Change Regeneration Batch Running multiple time in a day

This will provide you good information about your inventory requirements
