MS dynamics 365 BC and Jet reports

Hello everyone,

If anyone had experience with Jet Reports with connection to MS dynamics 365 BC or Navision:

Can Jet Reports which is connected to Nav or BC extract all information from the system - for example, can Jet reports extract data from BC/ Nav which is not stored in tables in  the system but is in objects?

Thank you a lot,

Ana

    Hi Ana,

I work with the Jet team at insightsoftware and wanted to add a quick note on top of the great feedback you've already got from the community. As Josh said, you'll want to use the NP function to extract that detail out of BC/NAV. Here are a couple articles on that:

    support.jetglobal.com/.../218953158-NP-Function-Reference

    support.jetglobal.com/.../115008505868-NP-Codeunit-

The Report wizard and table builder functions are good for quick extracts and ad-hoc, but there are other functions like the NL and NP that will give you more granularity in how you want to pull data and structure your reports.

    Hope this helps,

    Aaron

Given BC uses web services for Jet Reports (if SaaS) further pages or queries aren’t needed. The wizard based report creations methods are ok but you need to learn the long hand method to get the real benefit from the product. I would start by getting the example reports from the website. Seeing how the reports have been built helps but no substitute for the training to do it yourself.

This link mentions a possible use case for the codeunit function: support.jetglobal.com/.../115008505868-NP-Codeunit-

Dear Bilal, thank you for responding))

I am using Jet reports with regards to financial data - honestly I'm currently new to Jet. Started with report builder tool, but not all tables are there so i thought if there is any other way to extract data which are not stored in template tables or are stored for example as codeunits?

Dear Josh, Thank you so much for your answer.

To be more specific, my questions are:

-Is it possible to use OData url (page from BC) as a source for the reports?

    - Is it possible to run functions from BC (that are stored inside of BC objects, like Codeunit) with some parameters and use the result, that might be returned, in report building?

It works best with data from tables. It does have a function where it can use a codeunit which may send back more arbitrary information. If you require the ability to access system/virtual tables then Jet Reports is not the appropriate choice.

Do you have an idea of what you want to extract object wise?

    Hi,

I do not have much experience in Jet reports but I know that Jet reports can extract and use data from NAV/BC using different ways i.e. through DB(SQL) if On-Prem, Web Services etc. All of the information is stored in tables.

I do not understand other part of query, which data you want to extract other than table data.
