Operation Scheduling in AX

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi Guys,

I want to clarify the concept about operation scheduling in AX.

 Ex/

I have one resource group, RG

And RG consist of 2 resource, which is : RG01 and RG02 and have 8 hour working time per day for each resource

I have an item that have capacity 1 hour for 100 pcs in route

If I have sales order 2000 pcs for that item and then I run operation scheduling

My expectation is system will booked (reserve) capacity 2 day only.

16 hours in first day

4 hours in second day

 Is that true?

Because in my testing, I’ve got 3 days

8 hours in first day

8 hours in second day

4 hours in third day

Regards,

EYO

    RE: Operation Scheduling in AX

    Set up a resource group.

Specify  the number of resources to indicate that an operation can be split up and run on multiple machines simultaneously.

(see resource requirements tab  field “number of resources”. )
When you schedule an  operation on a resource GROUP,  put a number in that field e,g, “2” Enter yes to the system message
and the  process time should be cut in half. The total time operation time is the same as is labor cost. is also unchanged.
For  Operation scheduling the  routing operation is scheduled on the Resource Group. So although operation scheduling does not use the individual resources, they have to be in the resource group or you will get a scheduling error
For  Job scheduling each resources  get its own  job, for  half of the work.

    Hi

Is it only one of the resources that Axapta has booked the time on ?

If you want to use both resources you can change the number of resources to 2. Then it will book 16 hours in a day.

    RE: Operation Scheduling in AX

    Hi EYO,

It has been a very long time ago for me for this scheduling. Currently, it considers to use only one resource, apparently. Not sure about the settings for having more than one resource doing operations simultaneously.  A simple work-around would be splitting the purchase order. Can you share what settings you have for the route operations related to this BOM item/production order?
