Use a different unit of measure for Quantity and Price in Quotes/Orders

Posted on by 20

As a timber products retailer we are considering Dynamics NAV but I have a question on Item Units of measure.

We sell timber in Units or Pieces but the price needs to be shown as "Per meter" or "Per Cubic meter" depending on the product.

I can set up the various Unit of measure easily. (I.e Length to Pieces relationship and/or Length to Cubic meter)

Example:

Item Quantity Quantity Unit Price Price unit
Wood 30x100mm 3.0m 10 Each R20.00 per meter

Unit of measure relationship for this item would be 1 Each = 3 Meters

Therefore total would show as 10 x R20 x 3 = R600.

However it does not seem possible to set a different Price unit of measure in Quotes/Orders etc.

Regards

Malcolm

    Malcolm

Price is calculated, according what you have UOM in line.

e.g.If you choose EACH then Price will be 1*10 = 10

And if you choose PER METER then Price will be 10*3 = 30.

Prices refletcs on the basis of what relation you have set up b/w both UOM.

    Malcom,

Yes, standard NAV does not supports your requirement. You will need to proceed with the customization.

    Hi Malcolm

This is the Standard way that Navision Works, what is the unit of measure you selected in the line it will give the price for that unit of measure.

I understand your Requirement without doing a customization your will not be able to do that.

    Thanks

    Indika.

    Hello Indika

I understand your reply and how the UOM system works. Thank you.

However I sell items in "Pieces" and PRICE them in "Metres" or "Cubic Metres"

This needs to reflect on the sales documents, quotes and in processing etc.

I am happy to setup the UOM for each item showing the relationship but NAV still forces me to use the same unit of measure for quantity AND price.

eg: if in a quote/order/invoice I choose "Metres" as my UOM (from the drop down box), then Quantity AND price UOM changes to "Metres".

    Hi, Malcom

I agreed with Yougash, it is the best practice to create the smallest unit of measure for the Base unit of measure.

if you set the "Unit Price" field in the item card for the Base Unit of Measure, you can have any number of unit of measure & based on base unit price and item unit of measure system will calculate the sales price for each UOM it will be available for sales quote, order & invoice.

if that is not working you can try below sales price option as well.

and if you need to have two different prices for each unit of measure then you need to maintain sales price then based on the UOM conversion sales price will calculate automatically.

you can have sales price each unit of measure or you can have it without the unit of measure then based on item unit of measure conversion system will automatically convert the correct price.

please refer attached the screen for sales price & sale order for a different price.

    Sales price

    3441.sales-order-item-price.png

system auto convert sales price based on the unit of measure conversion.

hope this will solve your problem

    thanks,

RE: Use a different unit of measure for Quantity and Price in Quotes/Orders

    Hello Yogesh.

    Thank you for your reply.

I understand your answer - this is standard NAV.

    Please see my question above:

I need 2 different Units of measure to show in NAV.

One for the Quantity (in my example this would be Each)

and one for the price (in my example this would be Per Metre)

The relationship would be set in units of measure.

Ideally the default UOM could be set in the item card for price and quantity.

The standard quote/order screen allows you to change the Unit of measure but then this changes Price AND Quantity Unit of measures.

    Hope the above is clear.

    Regards

    Malcolm

    Malcom,

The base unit of measure is how the inventory quantities are displayed and how the inventory is valued.

It is considered best practice to have the base unit of measure to be the smallest one, this to avoid having fractions of units leftover due to rounding.

And then you can add another needed Unit of Measure.

So while entering Sales Order, you can change the Base Unit of Measure to whichever you need and it will calculate correctly.
