The total item tracking quantity [x] exceeds the line quantity [y]

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

NAV2013R2

when calculating the bin content from an item reclassification journal, I get a message 'The total item tracking quantity [x] exceeds the line quantity [y]. The changes cannot be saved to the database'.

I already discovered that this happens for lot tracked items being on an inventory Pick.

e.i. I do have an inventory of 962 pieces on bin 1.1.5. 5 pieces of them are on an inventory pick.

When I want to calculate the bin content of that bin, I get the message 'The total item tracking quantity [962] exceeds the line quantity [957].

Seems to mee that the calculation is filling the line quantity with 957 (being the inventory minus the qty on the pick), while the tracking quantity is filled with 962 (being the bin content).

If there are also other products on that bin, the stock is not calculated for those items also. When I calculate the bin content for the complete location, I end up with a partial calculation.

I have been searching the knowledge base, because I think this is an error, but I can't find anything.

I can imaging that  you can not move items with the reclassification journal if they are already on a pick, but it should be possible to calculate the bin content.

kr,

Francis

    Hi Jan,

nice to hear from you. I think it is an error indeed.

I modified the calculation in the other way.

The calculation of the content is not considering the quantities that are on a pick, but the item tracking is calculated for the whole quantity on the bin, exactly as you describe in your reply.

I modified the calculation of the bin content itself, so it also takes the quantities that are already on picks.

In case of my customer, this was the most logical solution, because they make the pick the moment the order is released, and the pick might be unposted for several days. So if they move inventory in this time, they should be able to register it.

And of course, the pick has to be modified in this case.

But I don't think the way I fixed it for the customer, should be te way it is fixed in NAV.

    kr,

    Francis.

    Hi Francis,

I think I've seen this before. The Item Journal Line that is created gets the right Quantity, but the calculation of the Item Tracking (done in report 7391) uses all items that are, according to the warehouse entries, present in that bin - and since the pick is not yet registered the items are still in that bin. So the Item Tracking qty. will be too high.

I agree - I think this is an error.

    Hi Jonathan,

I found this article too, but this is not the place in the application where it happens.

I get the error when calculating bin content in an item reclassification journal.

The KB article is about posting a warehouse pick.

    kr,

    Francis
