Negative BIN values

Hey guys,

I've got a bit of a problem with Bins, and can't seem to find anything relevant on the forum, so here goes.

So I've setup our company to allow negative inventory at a global level. I do understand the drawbacks of doing this, however it is unfortunately essential to how the business operates. We've then setup a location with the most basic Warehouse functionality, we only have "bin mandatory" checked and no other fields checked at this time. Every item in the warehouse has "fixed" and "default" checked.

The issue we're having is that even though globally, negative Inventory is allowed, when it comes down to bin level it doesn't seem to allow it. I can't find any setting to allow this anywhere either. I've attached the error message if that helps.

Has anyone had a similar issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ed

    Hi Chaz,

We were trying to avoid the complexity of the RECEIVE functionality initially. However I think enabling that, and cross-docking sounds like the easiest way forward at this stage.

Thanks for your help with this, I appreciate it.

    Hi Ed,

You probably want to do more research on the RECEIVE bin, and cross docking for orders. When you receive the order, it will put it in the receive bin (aka your dock area) then you do a put away to the sellable bin locations. it helps control from showing the inventory available.

If you have bin mandatory, no there is no way to have negative inventory as bin contents cannot be less then 0.

    RE: Negative BIN values

    Hi Chaz,

Yes the inventory shows zero, but the stock is physically in the warehouse, it's just that the incoming stock is yet to be landed (posted) in the system.

So I would setup a location with no warehouse functionality at all, and use that I guess. I feel that this would get pretty messy, and I don't think management would stay on top of doing manual stock transfers. Would there be a way to prioritise incoming stock to wipe out the negative values location first until they reach zero, and then have them put in the actual warehouse?

Otherwise, I understand we wouldn't be able to have negative values in the bin itself, but is there absolutely any way to allow negative values in a warehouse location?

    Thanks for your help.

    RE: Negative BIN values

    Hi Ed,

Is this a matter of your inventory shows 0, but say the customer physically found it and wants to buy it? If so, a suggestion would be to set up a separate location without Bin Mandatory turned on. This location would act as a negative inventory place holder to get the sale through, then management can evaluate the inventory issues and take appropriate actions with item journals/item re-class.

If this answer helps, please select verify.

    Thanks!

    RE: Negative BIN values

    Hi,

The Warehouse-module and the Inventory are two seperate entities in Business Central.
The Inventory has a financial background and the Warehouse-module is used to manage processes in the Warehouse.

With this background it might make sense to have a negative inventory from a financial perspective, you can't have a negative quantity in a Bin.
You have to disable warehouse functionality to use negative Inventory.
