Posted on by 5

Our Company Want to upgrade CRM 2011 to D365 9.0 . Can you please help us the way how do this step by step. it is better if you have video of this activity. As I understand it should start from CRM 2011 to CRM 2013 and gradually be updated to CRM D365. What are the challenges which might faced?

Also want to understand, detailed information on the feature comparison-both technical( such as SDK updates, deprecated functions) and functional (enhanced business rules, calculated fields etc) between Dynamics CRM 2011, CRM 2013, CRM 2015 and CRM 2016/Dynamics 365 ?

Please help.

Thanks,

Bijjam

RE: Upgrading CRM 2011 on premise to Dynamics 365 9.0 on premise

    There are 2 main options:

    1. Upgrade, where you have to upgrade through each version, and this necessarily retains all data and customisations
    2. A migration, where you separately migrate the customisations and data from the CRM 2011 instance to a new CRM 9.0 instance, and can decide which customisations and data to migrate, and which to omit

Normally option 1 is easier, but option 2 gives the opportunity to decide if there are features or data that you don't want to keep, and also to change customisations to make use of the new features since CRM 2011.

For the upgrade approach, the main potential issue is the first upgrade (to CRM 2013), as this is where you'll find out if you have any customisations or extensions that use the CRM 4.0 features, as these are supported in CRM 2011, but not beyond. We have also had some issues with the last step, to CRM 9.0, which Microsoft have not fully resolved. Most of the other steps tend to be fairly smooth. To allow for testing, and potential rollbacks, it is best to have multiple servers (and associated SQL instances); ideally one per CRM version, though you can upgrade in place as you go through the versions

    Hi Bijjam,

This article explains a path for upgrading from Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016.

You will need to first upgrade from Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013, and then follow the steps in the above article to upgrade Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2013 to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2015 before upgrading to Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016. Once you have done this you can upgrade to Microsoft Dynamics 365 Server by following one of the upgrade options in this article.
