Changing Security Roles from managed state to unmanaged state

We keep security roles in UAT environment as in an unmanaged solution, we make changes in UAT and then deploy in Production environment. However, a couple of month ago Production environment was copied into UAT environment. When the copy was done from Prod to UAT, the unmanaged Security Roles were overwritten by the managed versions from Production. Now when we make changes in UAT in unmanaged solution for a security role and deploy into prod, these changes do not take affect in Prod as the security roles are in managed state.

Is there any workaround to change the security roles state to unmanaged?
