Is it possible to have multiple sets of item attributes for an item?

Posted on by 50
Hi experts! As stated in the title, is it possible for an item to have multiple sets of item attributes?

Example:
Item with 2 sets of item attributes

Attribute set 1:
Attribute A: Value1, Attribute B: Value2, Attribute C: Value3

Attribute set 2:
Attribute A: Value4, Attribute B: Value5, Attribute C: Value6

1) I don't want multiple values in an attribute e.g. Attribute A: Value1, Value4
2) When I filter the items with attributes, I must input the values from the same set of item attribute
e.g. Attribute A: Value1 + Attribute B: Value5 -> this item won't show up in the search result because the values are not from the same set of item attributes

Is this even possible????

If not, what are some possible solutions apart from using item attributes?

Many thanks!

I think the only way you can achieve this with standard functionality is you split the attribute sets by the machine they represent. i.e. Machine 1 Model, Machine 2 Model, Machine 1 Year, Machine 2 Year, etc.

If this is the case, you can choose to use Dimensions, although it is a bit troublesome, you have to modify it every time you use it.
Or you can only customize a new function, although I personally don’t recommend it.

    Thanks.

Thanks YUN ZHU for your reply.

The attributes are not our products' attributes to be exact.

We sell parts that fit in different machines, and those machines have different attributes (e.g. Model, Year, Manufacturer etc.).
We are hoping to search items that are compatible with a machine with certain attributes. I might be wrong, but I think variant may not be suitable for our case as it is not our items having variants, but one/several item can fit in several machines. It is a many-to-many relationship.

I can't think of a way other than having a bridge table in our database and using filter on that table.

    Please help, thanks!

This is impossible, and even if customized, it is difficult to achieve.
You can consider using Item Variants, and a item can set multiple.

    Hope this helps.
    Thanks.
