Optimal picking with mixed-items location

Posted on by 345

Hi everybody, me again!

I have a new issue to share with you guys. I am using the location directives to design the picking route that the worker has to do to comply an order. The thing is that I have mixed-items locations, so the same item can be stored in many different locations. When the system creates the work, it is generated to go first to the differents locations to comply the first item of the order, and then to go to the locations to comply the next one, and so on. This makes the picking is not optimal, because the worker has to go two or more times to the same place in the warehouse.

Does anybody know how to configure an optimal picking for this scenario?

Thank you!!

I have a mobile device menu item with the following setup:

    Mode: work

    Use existing work: Yes

    Directed by: Cluster Picking

    Cluster profile ID: Cluster pick

Scenario: I have a work with 2 lines.

Open menu item in mobile device.

Assign work to cluster and enter a licencse plate (if neccessary).

Because of I have no other work for the cluster, I’m clicking done.

Enter CD (if necessary, please look at work confirmation setup), in my case the location id, for the first item.

Enter the licence plate, for the first item (same LP like above).

Enter CD, in my case the location id, for the second item.

Enter the licence plate, for the second item.

Enter CD, in my case the location id fort he putting location.

After clicking ok, work is done and cluster is completed.

could you provide some link for cluster picking, or steps to execute it. I have created work and added them to a cluster. Am struggling now to find the next step for processing that cluster. What is the next step, how do I process that work now which I added in the cluster. The cluster pick menu of HHT seems to provide option only for adding work to cluster. But how to process that cluster?

Hi Nils, I think I have found the solution. It is a solution with a complex maintenance, because you have to define the picking order using the sort code in the locations form. Then you need to edit query in the work template sorting by the location sort code.

This solution works, but the maintenance is very complex when you have big warehouses with a lot of locations.

    Hi Facundo,

so you how do you wave? Shipments for one order at a time or more orders?

How do you 'break' your work today?

If you have only one work with x lines clustering would be of no value to you.

If you wave one order at a time you could 'break' your work by zone and sort the lines by 'sort code'. The break by zone would keep the worker in this zone and the sort code would be the 'route' through this zone.

    Regards

    Nils

Thanks Nils, the thing is that we do not process multiple orders at the same time. Does it matter?

    Hi,

this sounds like "Cluster picking" to me.

It is designed for this purpose.

I'm short of time right now so my hint is very shot. But i think it't worth a look.

    Regards

    Nils
