Printing attached document along with Invoice

Hi all,

Have a question regarding document printing in AX.  Can you trigger a supported external document to print with a form like the invoice?

I noticed the company uses stock/pre-printed forms for invoices because they have their long terms and conditions on the back side of the stock sheets already printed.  This is a waste of money.  Printing the invoice form on regular paper and then loading the external document would be perfect and eliminate the need for this.

I played around with document printing in AX and see that when you go in to create a document type, you have the option to select an external document.  I set this up and when going into forms setup under AR, I noticed under the optional footer text that you have a small icon to add an attachment. So, I went in and selected the document I set up under document types in Organization and it it does indeed launch Word to show the document.  However, when I configure the original or copy invoice to show this footer which includes the attached document, it doesn't actually print it.  Just the invoice is printed but I do see the footer text that is linked to the document on the footer section.  It just doesn't load the actual document.

Is this possible?  That's all I want to know.  I see the option there but it just doesn't work under print management.

See two attached screenshots that clearly show this option available in print management.

If not possible to automatically load and print an external supported file out of the box, is the only option resorting to a third party solution for forms creation/automation?

Any confirmation or help with this is greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

You are referring to "footer text for documents" which can print just 50 characters.  Refer technet.microsoft.com/.../Dd309676.aspx for details.  The functionality you are expecting needs customization

Thank you Ram K.  I appreciate it.  Yes, I'm aware on how the footer functions but what throws me off is that when you set the footer, you have a small attachment icon.  When you click on that, you have the option of browsing and loading a supported document such as PDF or Word.  It then shows as attached.

What is this functionality for then if the file can't be printed?

    Thank you much,

Hi Mike, My understanding of document handling (attachment icon) in Print Management is different.  Users can save their reference document (like policy to send customer Invoices) for each setup by using this functionality.

I think that invoice reports support attachments of type "Notes", but not files.

Print your files directly, don't try to integrate them into SSRS reports.

RE: Printing attached document along with Invoice

    Hi Mike,

Please feel free to take a look at Liaison Messenger EDD by Liaison Software, www.liaisonsc.com.   In addition to many features related to business form and report distribution Messenger EDD offers both static and variable attachments.

    Static Attachments
An example of a static attachment, as you mentioned, is terms and conditions for an Invoice or Purchase order. With Messenger EDD you can attach the static attachment which could then be printed with the document or emailed along with it, depending on the recipients preference (print, fax, or email)

    Variable Attachments
Variable attachments provide much more flexibility and each document processed could include unique attachments. Messenger EDD utilizes data on the document processed to come up with the proper naming convention and then retrieves the applicable attachments from the assigned folder.

    Examples of variable attachments are:
    - Attach Invoices listed on the Statement to the Statement
    - Attach instructions to an Invoice retrieving proper instructions based on item numbers
    - Attach marketing information to an invoice based on item #'s on the invoice
    - Attach appropriate service call reports to an invoice based on the job number listed on the invoice.
