Hi,
I have been doing some research on wheter Outlook is absolutely required in AX 2012 to get email functionality (not full integration) to work. Note the client has no requirement for full Outlook integration.
Let's say a client uses Lotus Notes at present with no plan to deploy Exchange/Outlook anytime in the future. I was hoping to use the Exchange/Outlook MAPI Client & CDO Objects located here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=1004 to see if it is a viable alternative.
I would prefer not touching the code, but if I simply run a report and choose to "Email" the report, two errors pop in regards to not being able to call a COM object (Outlook), and not being able to initialize the "outook.application" object. Note all SMTP settings/parameters are correctly configured.
Has anyone ever completed this type of setup? At worst I can install the MAPI Client & CDO Objects, but I doubt it will work as it appears AX is looking for Outlook, as well as I am unsure if the MAPI client & CDO Objects work with a Notes backend.
Any help appreciated.
