Change global dimension value for posted transactions

Dear All,

I am having a case where i have to load cost on all the transactions related to a project.

Now the problem is how to load the cost of sales and support activities? Which are completed before finalization of SO. The dimension value(Project ID-maintained in sequence per customer) is created upon finalization of SO. So same can not flow with preactivities of SO. And i can not capture cost for those transactions.

I am thinking to create dummy Project ID dimension value at the stage of opportunity only and change it to the sequencial project ID when won and turn to respective cost center dimension value if lost.

I am not sure about that does changing of dimension value in posted transactions is advisable??

Can it corrupt the data???

    Hi,

    This is not changing the global dimension but this is change in global dimension value so it needs to do some code for changing the dimension value in posted entries. it is not standard system.

    Is it mandatory to make some customization for correct effects of changing the value of global dimension?

    I can not fit this as in standard system?

    Hi,

    Changing the dimension values in posted transactions require more attention.

    If you change the posted dimension then it will also affected to the previous reportings if you are taking those with dimensions.

    Yes, that is possible to change dimension value by writing some code but again it is all depend on how it is necessary and keep in mind their consequences.
