Split quantities among different "put-away" locations in WMS

Hi everyone, can someone please help me to understand - in Warehouse management module in AX2012 R3 - how i can split quantities of items (previously ordered with a P.O.) among different locations (during an inbound process)?
Suppose, for instance, that i set fixed locations (put-away location) 1 and 2 for item A, which i already ordered with a P.O (let's say ordered qty = 10). For these locations i also set a quantity limit equal to 5.
My goal is to define a location directive that allow the system to stock 5 pieces of itemA in location 1 and the other 5 pieces in location 2.
Thanks guys!

    Yes, 'Allow split' is important.

If 'Allow split' is not ticked on a Location directive line, the location directive will look for locations which can take the full quantity.

If 'Allow split' is ticked, AX will fill locations it can find, potentially using several to put away the order.

Don't forget you can use multiple lines on one location directive. You might want a line on your location directive for each. The first line could look to put the whole quantity away in one location (which might be efficient for your workers), and the second line could put it away over several locations if the first one fails.

You also have the 'Strategies' called 'Consolidate' and 'Empty location with no incoming work' which you might find useful:

    Thank you Guy,

    i'll check it out!

P.S.: is the check-box "allow split" in location directives (fast tab Lines) involved in this particular process? i guess so, but i've already validate and it doesn't work yet.

    Hi,

Yes, I think you have two options.

You can use Location stocking limits (Warehouse management -> Setup -> Warehouse setup). You can set per Location/Location Profile and Item/Pack size group the maximum that can be in a location. I believe the location directive honours this, and can either ignore locations which do not have enough room, or split the put away as necessary.

Pack size groups are optional, but are a way to group items which take up the same amount of space:

Or you can use volumetric calculations. The location volume is set on the Location profile:

    Hi,

please note this is a simple example i wrote (in AX i've created one a little more complex, but of the same kind) in order to understand how to manipulate locations directives.

So yeah, that locations can store 5 pieces at maximum. Is it possibile, then, set the WMS in a way it can split automatically those 10 pcs of item A in more than one location?

    Hi gianca,

In your scenario, do you want to limit Location 1 and Location 2 to 5 pieces each of Item A because that is the maximum number of Item A that you can fit into those locations?
