DAX 2012: Setup could not connect to the database server

Hey, I am installing AOS on a server 2008.

When trying to connect to the SQL 2008 DB on an other server SBS 2008 (Domain Controller) I get the above mentioned message.

What can be the problem..... I was thinking ports to be opened in the firewall?

If yes, do I have to add them on the 1st og 2nd mentioned server or both?

Must they be added as inbound or outbound in the firewall or both?

And what ports are neccesary to open?

    Many, many additional possibles for this problem:

    1. You are not including the SQL Server instance name e.g. SOMEMACHINE\PRIMARYSQLINSTANCE

    2. You are trying to install AX from a network share (there is a problem with the install if you do this when it tries to restore a baseline database)

    3. Firewall is unlikely but if you're wondering it is using port 1433 most likely

    4. DNS issues (try to ping the SQL Server)

    5. SQL Server is set to use non-routable protocols (e.g. TCP is not enabled)

    This should be a start.

    Yes indeed, it was a firewall problem for me due to default configuration of the firewall on Windows Server 2012.
