Import EDI files

Hi, I am new in MS Dynamics. I was just put in the hot seat to try to resolve an issue.

I am trying to bring an EDI file. All I know is that I have to run a script or bat file that copies the EDI file (*.* any file) into a folder called: "ComboReceive". from there, I was told to the main MS Dynamics NAV page and from the "EDI/XML Interface option, click on Import.

Then, click on PRINT, and it should bring the EDI file into MS Dynamics NAV.

Well, I am getting an error. That is:

"The Operationg System cannot find the drive and directory specified for the file C:\Program Files (x86)Microsoft Dynamics NAV\CSIDE Client\   Please check that the drive, directory and file names are correct?"

Is there an specific name for the EDI file being imported?

If so, what is it?

Sorry if this is a stupid question but as I said, this is the first time I am using MS Dynamics NAV.

I would also like to know how or where do I make the EDI mapping ( have experience in that) in this application.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you

FFLORES

    RE: Import EDI files

Hi Natalie, thank you so much for your help.

I found some EDI stuff but only if I log in in directly from the server where MS Dynamics is installed. Looking more into this, I was able to find out about this error. It turned out that the file itself  I was trying to import had some EDI format issues like envelop and envelop trailer counter did not match, the number of transactions did not match the actual number of transaction in the document, etc. According to personnel, the person in charge back in the days, did not know much about EDI and somehow made the clients built EDI documents that does not follow EDI standard. That is why it was more difficult to find out, among all the errors in the document, which was the error that that was making it not to work. I was surprised that this has been working for long time with such a mess.

Anyhow, I still need to find out more about this other EDI module and how it works so I can make the necessary changes.

    Your help is really appreciated.

    Thank you

    Francisco

    RE: Import EDI files

Standard NAV doesn't have any EDI integration. What you are using or were trying to use is some module or customizing from your NAV partner or a third party provider.

Unfortunately the error message itself does not explain to me what the problem could be. I only see that the program is searching something in your client folder which doesn't make much sense to me. Maybe you as a new user need some setting somewhere, but that's just a guess.

Thus it is best to contact your NAV partner, if you cannot solve it yourself or by asking colleagues maybe.
