How do I do a Sales Return for a sub-component of the sales item?

I sold an Item that is a top-level assembly and the customer needs to return a subcomponent.

Since I am not returning the entire item, I can not use the Get Posted Lines to Return.

What would be the procedure to return a sub-component of a sales item?

If I manually enter the line with the sub-component, can I apply the return back to the consumption of the subcomponent? I guess this would be from the Apply From column?

I would approach it by :

    1.  create credit memo for the customer.

    2. do ositive adjustment on the component through item journal if the component return to inventory.

and if this case is regularly happen I will make a special batch name in the item journal for this purpose.

Good suggestion but we are using the Sales Return process for all returned items with Approvals. We don't want Jr. members having the ablity to create Credit Memo's on the fly and they do not have access to make Item Journal Adjustments( Not the role of a Customer Service rep to make Inventory Adjustments). This scenerio is quite common as we sell large machines and have returns on sub-components regularly.

The other issue is having different paper work for the customer for what is in their mind the same process of returning an Item, wheher it be the whole item or a sub-componenet of, it is a return. It seems a bit haphazzard when a customer gets a SRA one time and a credit memo another.

Is there not a Microsoft defined Return Process for Subcomponents???
