Dear Community,

Does anyone know a resource that can help me connect my Event registration info in Dynamics to Power BI?

What steps do I need to take so that I can

  • connect to the proper environment
  • access the database tables with: Contact info + Sessions  Chosen + Answers to Custom Registration Fields

Many thanks!

    Hi,

Do you mean make a Power BI report based on event registration records?

If so, you could refer to the following tutorial:(We should use Desktop version to connect to Dynamics.)

    Regards,

Thank you so much for your reply - I am seeing a slightly different set of choices however. I am also having some conceptual stumbling blocks here at the beginning. Once I can get the right tables in PowerBI I know how to set everything else up.

    A. Discover content

My organization ->Org apps- no apps have been published - do I need to publish an app first?

Services> Template apps - nothing specifically for Events

    B. Create new content - I assume I don't want any of these because I don't want static data?

    Files

    Databases

    Datflows

    Hey,

Apart from Clofly's comments here - you can also refer the documentation for connecting PowerBI to Dynamics here - docs.microsoft.com/.../custom-analytics

    Hi Partner,

Are you running in online version of Power BI?

    pastedimage1600239951456v1.png

From my test, it seems that Dynamics 365 and Common Data Service connectors are only available in Desktop version,

therefore, we need to use the Desktop version instead.

You can download the desktop application here:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=58494

Please refer to following tutorial after the installation is completed.

    https://powerobjects.com/2016/11/18/connect-to-dynamics-365-data-from-powerbi-desktop/

When the program starts, sign in is not required, just click Get data.

    pastedimage1600240323476v4.png

Then navigate to Online Services tab > Dynamics 365(online)

    pastedimage1600240441252v5.png

or search for Common Data Service

    pastedimage1600240486359v6.png

Now I have connected to my D365 and loaded event registration records successfully.
