AxSetup is crashing when I try to install AX 2012 R3 Analysis Services

Hello all,

I have been trying to figure out why the AXSetup keeps crashing when I go to install AX Analysis Services.

I am using a 2 server setup:

A Domain Controller

- Server 2016

- SQL Server 2016 Standard

- Has AX database installed

An Application Server

- Server 2016

- SQL Server 2016 Express

- Has AX Client (complied), Help Server and AOS installed

I would like to install AX Analysis Services and AX Reporting Services on the Domain Controller.  When I get to the part of the install when installing Analysis Services I get to where I specify the SQL Analysis service regardless of whether I hit the drop-down or put "MSSQLServerOLAPService" the setup still crashes.  Yes, Analysis services are installed from the SQL Standard install and yes the services is running.

Is there anything missing that I need to do to get this to be able to install?

    I have this same problem.  I've installed SSAS many times on AX2012R3 but this is the first with SSAS on SQL2016.  I do have SQL2012SP1 SMO installed.

    I figured it out.  Though it isn't a prerequisite you need to install the Analysis Management Objects.

    Version SQL2012 SP1 or SQL2016?

    I installed the 2012 AMOs even though I am using SQL 2016.

    Confirmed that this worked as well. Note as well that the 2016 AMOs are not compatible with AX 2012 R3.

    AMO 2012 installed for SQL 2016. Worked for me too. After installing AMO I was able to install AX Analysis Services to the SQL 2016.
