How does the Double Opt-in link work after 30 days?

I have a simple question about double opt-in.
The link expires after 30 days. What's next? A man comes back after 30 days of vacation (we envy him), opens an email, clicks on a link and what happens? What does he see?

One thing that is confirmed is that users who receive the email will not be able to confirm their opt-in.
