Will there be new VHDs in the LCS for download?

Hello, everyone,
I recently deployed a new Cloud Hosted Environmnt with PU 48 (10.0.24). Visual Studio 2019 is already installed on this environment.

I still have a local developer VM that I downloaded from the LCS at the time and always installed the new PUs manually.
Visual Studio 2017 is still installed on this VM.

There is currently no newer VM in the LCS that you can download than the one from April 6th, 2021 with version 10.0.17.

Does anyone know if there will soon be a new version of VHDs in the LCS for download?

Thanks in advance.

greeting
Stefan

    Hi Stefan,

I am not sure when the new VHDs will be available in LCS. We have been updating the PUs manually on the developer environments as well.

We have, however, installed VS 2019 and installed the D365 F&O extensions from using .vsix files from "DevToolsService\Scripts" folder under the folder where we extracted the service update package.

    Hello Gunjan,

    Thank you for your reply.

The installation of Visual Studio 2019 on the VM is a possibility that I do not rule out and will also do if the provision of the VHDs in the LCS is still delayed for a long time.

Did you have any problems during the installation? Are you using both VS2017 and 2019 on the VM? Or now only 2019?

I just created a ticket to MS with this question.

    greeting

    Stefan

    Hi Stefan,

We have both VS 2017 and 2019 installed, but are using VS 2019 only at the moment. We have been using VS 2019 from when we were on PU 46 and have not faced any issues. Even when we upgraded to PU48 last month.

    Hi Stefan,

Usually, Microsoft released new VHDs with every major update which is in April and October. The previous VHD should be released with version 10.0.21, but there was a delay. Let's hope there will be a new VM available for 10.0.25 next month.

For all versions in between you have to update the VM yourself. When you now need a VM for 10.0.24, you can update a 10.0.17 environment.

    Hello, everyone,

I got a reply from Microsoft about this as well.

Here is just an excerpt from the answer:

There is no higher version currently and there is no official information if and when a new higher version VHDs will be available.

Nevertheless bases on some internal information I expect that new version of the VHDs could be available until the end of March, but I have no access to official confirmation or date regarding this information.

To me, this means that we continue to manually update our VMs and, as Gunjan described, manually install Visual Studio.

Looks like a 10.0.24 version of the VHD dropped yesterday, 04/04/2022. However, when I try to run the admin provisioning tool it fails with "the value's length for key password exceeds it's limit of 128". It appears that setup has changed for the VHD, but I'm not seeing any new documentation.

You need to register a new application in Azure Active Directory and run a script to generate a self-signed certificate. This script should be on your desktop. See also Set up the downloadable VHD for first use.

Thanks, Martin! Yeah, even after doing all that there are still some issues. Though this thread is probably not the place for these details I'll post them here anyway.

The pre-installed retail server is throwing an error "At least one security token in the message could not be validated" and CDX jobs aren't applying. I'm not sure what to do with this. The Retail Server web.config seems to have been updated correctly as best I can tell.

Real-time Service client library call failed. CorrelationId: '{7cba18a7-cf1d-4d7e-b482-2d912840791c}'. ApiName: 'IsAlive'. MethodName: 'IsAlive'. Language: ''. Company: ''. ParameterCount: '0'. Ex: 'System.ServiceModel.Security.MessageSecurityException: An unsecured or incorrectly secured fault was received from the other party. See the inner FaultException for the fault code and detail. ---> System.ServiceModel.FaultException: At least one security token in the message could not be validated.

Also, pulling up the Retail and Commerce > Headquarters setup > Commerce scheduler > Channel Database page an error is immediately displayed.

The required data encryption certificate was not found when trying to edit the Database connection profile table and the ConnectionString field. Please add a valid certificate. I know that the cert thumbprint "7366E25DC94FA8A400FA0037FFF3BB300D9482D4" is the DataEncryptionCertificate from the .17 VM and that the "Generate Self-Signed Certificates" script that you referenced is supposed to update all the various AOS/RS/etc config files with the generated cert thumbprints. Apparently it is missing something though and the question is what?

Same issue here. Microsoft is working on a documentation update.

It is 10.0.24 published on 04/04/2022 at LCS. You can go to download.
