Hello guys

today i am facing a problem. actually when my user search a item with search name in sale order, return order or anywhere else. he got some problem to find item.

the main reason is this search name field(sting 64) do't store full description. and in some cases one item can have same name with different models, like Washing Machine 110, Washing Machine 112 like this . in this case when user search item with name then he got a problem. when he search item with name he got the result

item ID                              item Name

110001                              Washing Machine

110002                              Washing Machine

he want to know which is washing machine 110 and which one is 112

kindly tell me what to do? and how to do?

thanks

Hassan

Include the field which is having 'Washing Machine 110, Washing Machine 112' as part of your result which is displayed to your user.

    item ID                              item Name                                  NewFieldPartOfSearchResults

110001                              Washing Machine                      'Washing Machine 110

110002                              Washing Machine                      'Washing Machine 112

    Hi Hassan,

I assume the item Name column mentioned in your question is the search name?

Some item lookup forms do have the default product name as additional column. On the SalesTable form you can try to add logic to override the default lookup and use the lookup method "lookupItemId" from the table InventTable.

You can also try to add display methods to the field group "AutoLookup" on the table InventTable

    Hi Andre

thanks for reply. actually i feel that the problem is with ItemNameAlias field in InventTable.

i noted that it is sting(64). what if i increase it length ?

if you are thinking to change length of ItemNameAlias, you cannot do it directly as its being originated from NameAlias (Extended Data Type). So you should increase length of NameAlias EDT.

Moreover remember, by doing so search name's length will be increased everywhere(vendor search name, customer search name etc. everywhere)

This field is string type. I am not sure what's the link between increasing length and your issue of search results.???

Although Search name is populated automatically when you create a new product, it can be edited at any time.

Why not change the search name on your released products to WM110 and WM112 (or similar)?

    Dear Hassan Ghauri,

Kindly follow any of following two options

    1. increase length of field as we discussed above. after increasing length update data in search name field of item master using excel add-in. (Quickest and less expensive approach as it needs less customization[only increase of field length])
    2. modify your lookups anywhere, to include any more fields. (More expensive approach as may be in future also you need to modify more lookups may be at quotation or requisition, BOM Lines or any more places as well)

remaining its depends upon choice, how you feel more comfortable, you can proceed with that option
