Blank pages on PDF reports

Posted on by 115

I'm trying to solve the issue of blank pages that show up when printing a report in AX to a pdf.  I've googled and found this was a common problem, and tried to follow the troubleshooting guide from https://stoneridgesoftware.com/blank-page-issues-ssrs-reports/.  However, I don't understand where to change the printer settings for the report.

These are the steps I use to print the report: Procurement and sourcing > Common > Purchase orders > All purchase orders > filter approval status == approved, pick a PO with several line items > purchase tab > Generate > purchase inquiry > check Print purchase inquiry and use print management destination > Printer setup > Purchase inquiry > File > enter file name and select file type == pdf > click OK

When I do this, I don't see anywhere that I can change the body size or whatever settings for the printer, as it says to try in solutions 1 and 2 of that troubleshooting guide.  Where can I change these settings?

Good deal, I'm glad you figured it out!  If you do have any more problems and need to explore other settings, open the report in edit/design view in Visual Studio.  Once you have the layout of the report in focus, hit your F4 key.  This will bring up your report properties.  One of the properties is ConsumeContainerWhiteSpace (mentioned in the Stoneridge link you provided).  Set that property to True.

Thank you for the additional information Travis!  I believe I was able to fix the issue by changing the body size to the main report, but if it doesn't pass testing, I'll be sure to follow your steps.

I see that you have several versions of the purchase order report.  First, let's verify which one it's printing.  In your AX client, go to Procurement and sourcing --> Setup --> Forms --> Form setup, click Print management, expand Purchase order, then click on whatever option you have under purchase order.  What do you have in Destination and Report Format boxes?

The property settings that they're referring to in the link you provided are accessed via Visual Studio.  That's getting down to the nuts and bolts of your purchase order report design.  Is that something you're familiar with?  If so, is it something you're comfortable with?  Making changes to reports at that level can be tricky.
