How to use Fiddler to monitor / debug error in Power BI Embedded in F&O

Hi,

How to use Fiddler to monitor / debug error in Power BI Embedded in F&O ?

I mean what's the step or setting, or which part I should look ?

There is some error regarding Power BI embed report, and some people suggesting to use Fiddler. I have installed it now, but I don't know how to use it ?

    Fiddler allows you to observe network traffic on a computer. PowerBI embedded runs inside D365FO and also communicates with the D365FO database. If you would be able to install and run Fiddler in test (Sandbox tier2+) or prod (you can't), you would see that the application calls the Azure SQL database. But you would not see what's in the call since it's encrypted.

    So, as far as I understand, Fiddler would not be very useful.

    In dev system you can use SQL Profiler to see which queries are executed in the db.

    but it is very hard for me to digest.

    To me that article doesn't seem very relevant. Microsoft does the embedding in this case, not you. You just provide content that is embedded by Microsoft.

    Sorry, after checking it again, perhaps it's helpful in some cases. So you can try to install Fiddler in your D365 dev machine and see what you get out of it.

    In general, perhaps you can also share what kind of problems you are facing. Maybe someone had similar problems and can help you. For that, I suggest first searching help with your problem description, and if you can't find it, then post a new question to this forum (since the current one is about Fiddler & PBI embedded).

    Yes, I have 2 issue actually. One, already post in other topic with title "Power Bi Embedded still looking to older version of PBIX in F&O workspace"

    Another one is, there is also error now while open the workspace contain that Power Bi report. it show error message that according my Ax developer it cannot debug, because it is not AX error code. I want to post that also, but I think the 1st one is more clear false as F&O open the wrong file.

    But one more thing, this report, as it has been deploy to PowerBi.com (as the normal procedure while F&O Deploy Power Bi files step). it run 'graciously" from PowerBI.com

    So, can I say it is not  the report problem, but F&O problem. Since I also cannot bring this to Power BI forum, they will say please bring this to F&O.

    What do you mean that it runs "graciously" from PowerBI.com? As far as I know, the embedded PowerBI reports should use direct SQL query and AxDW database. But this database can't be accessed from PowerBI.com (or anywhere outside the system), only from embedded reports.

    Hi,

    By means it's no error.

    Usually, when we Deploy Power Bi (using the System Administration menu), the report will be duplicate to the "person" PowerBI.com Workspace (please correct if I'm wrong)

    So I can see that "new" report in my Power BI Workspace, and when I try to run, it showing with no error. So this report has dataset that goes to other Azure database which define earlier (within the pbix).

    In my understanding, once we deploy through LCS (F&O), if we open it from inside, it will automatically replace whatever server and database the F&O belong, is that correct ?

    Yes. It will connect to the AxDW database (not AxDB). Is your report using AxDW database?

    yes, only in my case, AXDW using different name, but F&O will know also what is the name of my "AXDW", right ?

    However, yes, the report is using "AXDW", not AXDB
