Hi

Is anyone aware of solution or possible method to send a text message (SMS) to Sell to contact from Sales Oder? The idea is instead of using email that sometimes takes longer for sell to contact to response we can send Text Message to sell to contact cell phone (mobile) directly from BC then if Sell To Contact answered recorder the answer back to SO.

This way we can get a faster response if we have a quick question for Sell to contact.

Thanks

I have the same question (0)

Hi, I think this can be done with Power Automate.

I have tried sending Teams Message automatically before.

    https://yzhums.com/19698/

And there are many templates for sending SMS in Power Automate. You can try the Template below.

    Hope this will help.

    Thanks.

    Hi Mr Zhu

Thank you for answer. I have a few challenges here

    1) How I trigger PowerAutomation from BC when Customer Service team needs it?

    2) How I log trigger time and also success of text sent back to BC?

    3) How I receive the text back from customer and then log it back to BC into the same SO?

    Thanks

Yes, it is possible to send a text message (SMS) to a Sell to Contact from a Sales Order in Business Central (BC). Here's how you can do it:

    1. Set up SMS capabilities: You will need to set up an SMS gateway that allows you to send SMS messages from Business Central. This may require some additional configuration and setup.

    2. Create a Sales Order: Create a Sales Order in Business Central with the relevant information and details.

    3. Add the Sell to Contact's mobile number: Add the mobile number of the Sell to Contact in the appropriate field in the Sales Order.

    4. Use an SMS extension: Install and use an SMS extension in Business Central that allows you to send SMS messages directly from within the Sales Order. Some extensions allow you to create SMS templates that can be customized and sent to Sell to Contacts.

    5. Record the response: Once the Sell to Contact responds to the SMS message, you can record the response in Business Central by adding a note or comment to the Sales Order.

It is important to ensure that you have obtained the Sell to Contact's consent to send them SMS messages and that you comply with all relevant regulations and guidelines. Additionally, keep in mind that SMS messaging rates may apply and it is important to consider any costs associated with this method of communication.

I used third app sms provider api for this process. Send the sales order related details to get a quick confirmation using accept & decline. I used TWILIO api for this process

Business Central does not include SMS sending out of the box. To send text messages from a Sales Order and log the communication, you’d need an integration with an external SMS service (like Twilio) or a 3rd-party ISV app. This requires a customization to trigger the SMS from BC and capture replies back against the Sales Order. I recommend contacting your Microsoft Partner to set up the right integration.

    Hi MahGah,

Yes, this is absolutely possible, and increasingly relevant for teams looking to accelerate customer response times. While BC doesn’t offer native SMS functionality out of the box, you can achieve this using a combination of Power Automate, Business Events, and an SMS provider like Twilio.

    Here’s a proven method:

    1. Choose an SMS Provider
      • Twilio is widely used for this purpose. You’ll need:
      • Account SID
      • Auth Token
      • Trial or paid phone number

    2. Create a Power Automate Flow
      • Use BC’s Sales Order Posted event as the trigger.
      • When a Sales Order is created or updated, the flow retrieves the Sell-to Contact’s mobile number.
      • The flow sends an SMS using Twilio’s connector or HTTP API.

    3. Log the SMS Transaction
      • You can log the SMS details (timestamp, message content, status) in a custom table or use an extension like Fenwick’s SMS Integrator.
      • For response tracking, Twilio can forward replies to a webhook or email, which you can parse and attach as a comment or note on the Sales Order.

    4. Consent and Compliance
      • Ensure you have the contact’s consent to receive SMS messages. This is critical for compliance with data protection and communication laws.

    5. Optional Enhancements
      • Use templates for common messages (e.g., “Your order has shipped. Reply YES to confirm.”)
      • Add a status field on the Sales Order to reflect SMS communication status (e.g., Sent, Replied, Declined)
