Dimension Codes on Customer Card

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello:

I'm having an issue with my Dimension Code on my customer card when I want to invoice my customer.

My company decided to add a Zone (Zona for Italian): which is the geographical location of all our customers.

The above is from our customer card.

So we added this dimension to the customer card and when we went to invoice a customer on a previous Sales Order before we updated our dimensions we get this error message:

Error-Dimension-code.PNG

But the problem with this is that I've actually updated the Zona Code to WEST on the Sales Order and I still can't get the error message above.

I'm not sure if there is another location that I need to update, but this is causing so many issues. We're using Nav Dynamics 2009. HELP!

    Hi EnoNav -

Sorry for the confusing response - the Sales Order Header is the area relating to the Order as a whole (General / Invoicing/ etc.)   Usually when you add a Customer to an order, any dimensions assigned to the customer are carried into the basic info about the order, then those dimensions default onto new lines as they are entered.

On NAV 2009, open your Sales Order.  At the top of the screen - under "Related Information", select "Order" and then from there - "Dimensions".   (These are the "order" dimensions as opposed to the "line" dimensions)  Add the Zone dimension code and value.  I think that should address the issue.

Ok. But how is this helping my issue?

I know what a sales header is, but it doesn't give me anything about a Zone code, on a Sales Order- it does on my Customer card and My Lines on my Sales Order but not my Sales header- so Can you help me or are you still going to talk about cars and oil changes?

If you can't help then please stop responding. Thanks.

    Hi EnoNAV / Raokman,

I agree that if you tried to ask a question on how to change oil in your car you should be get instructions on how to try doing it on your own if that is what you want.

If your question about the car starts with "what is a steering wheel?" then it is a different level of support you are looking for and it is information that as I stated I would have expected that your car salesman would have shared before handing you the keys.

I am not trying to offend anybody. I am a longtime NAV person and I wanted to understand if really your partner sold you a system without ever covering what is a Sales Order Header or whether customers undertake implementations without ever using a single hour of their "partner's" time.

You're right, it is off topic.  Also my "partner" charges me an arm and a leg just for a question. I figured it would be an easy fix, so I asked the forum- isn't this what the forum is all about?

I know this is probably a ridiculous theory, but if he has an up-and-running system, why does he have to bring a partner in to solve what should be a minor problem?  Shouldn't he be able to use the error message and help screens to bring him to a resolution?

    Hi EnoNAV,

This might not be quite on topic, but the question for me is: do you not have a partner that is helping/helped with the implementation? I understand there are things that a customer could undertake on his own but the Header / Lines concept would be discussed in the first hour with any partner that is selling or implementing NAV.

I know this is a ridiculous questions: but where is the sales order header?

The error message implies that the Zone code has not been filled in on the Sales Order Header.  Did you add it there too or only to the Sales Order Lines?
