Dear All,

We know that Two types of clients must be considered for access to Dynamics 365 for Operation in the cloud :
Active clients and
Passive clients
Can you please let me know what is Active client and Passive client?
Please give me more shed on this.

Thanks!

Arpan Sen

No, we all don't know that. Plese tell us where you heard these terms, so we understand the context.

I can talk about what active and passive clients mean in general, but if you understand the words, you should already have some idea. But I can't comment on your specific scenario regarding AX, because you gave us so little details.

    Dear Arpan,

Read the following to understand differentiate between them.

    • Active clients can programmatically initiate actions based on responses from the server. An active client doesn't rely on HTTP redirects for authentication. A smart/rich client is an example of an active client.
    • Passive clients can't programmatically initiate actions based on responses from the server. A passive client relies on HTTP redirects for authentication. A web browser is an example of a passive client.

Thanks Jansheer, just note that that the question was asked more than a year ago and I said that "I can talk about what active and passive clients mean in general". What wasn't clear was what Arpan wanted in regards of Dynamics 365 for Operation, which he never explained.
