Management Reporter underlying query

Posted on by 77

Can we get the SQL that will be executed for producing the result of a report in the Management Reporter . The idea is to extract the SQL and reproduce the result from outside of the Management Reporter.

    RE: Management Reporter underlying query

    Hi Mythe,

Thanks for the clarifications.. I don't think there is any path to migrate easily historical data from GP to Dyn 365 F&O.. I know Microsoft has some process to go to 365 BC, but I'm not positive it's the same for F&O.

It's not because the extended support for GP 2013 ends at some point in time that you can't keep it running.. Of course, 7 years is  a long time and the current platform GP 2013 is running on today may well be depracated and usupported too in a few years (Windows & SQL).

This doens't mean your MR will not work though. One way you could handle this is to peform a data dump of the Financial historical data of GP and try to build an indepedant data cube, though from the legal perspective it would not longer come from the ERP system itself, so you may want to keep a running copy of your old GP as long as it's required by law.

GP used to have built-in Excel Analysis cubes, but I'm not sure that would the best way to run financial reports. If it would be me, I'd just keep the current setup and save it as long you can after you migrated the company to D365 F&O. BTW, you can export all your historical MR 2012 reports out of MR into Excel files and keep those for the duration requred by law.. I know companies that don't keep the MR reports they generate, as it would make the database grow a lot over the time. They periodically run some clean-up on the historical reports, but keep a copy as Excel file to archive with other financial documents.

    Hope this helps.

    RE: Management Reporter underlying query

    Hi

     Thank you for the answer.

Our company is migrating to Dynamics 365 F & O. Not all historical  data from Dynamics GP is migrated into F & O.

The company has the requirement to get the financial reports going back 7 years.

Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 extended support will end  4/11/2023, cannot have Dynamics GP 2013 system up and running beyond that date.

The reason for posting the question - If it is possible to get the underlying queries/stored procedure, can have a copy of the Management Reporter DM and extract the report using PowerBI/Tableau for historical data and use the F & O Management reporter for current data.

Would you suggest migrating Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 to one of the Financial reporting tools or is there a easy way to migrate Microsoft Dynamics GP 2013 reporting data into D365 F & O.

    Thanks

    Fully agree with Greg,

It even depends on how you setup your MR connector to GP.. the LEGACY won't be working the same way as the DataMart (DM) connector, thus your queries will be very different.

I  don't see the interest of trying to "mimic" the MR queries for any other tools, as there are so many options to cover. Why re-inventing the wheels ?

If you don't like the MR, then go for another Financials reporting tool, like VividReport, ActivReporter(nQativ), JetReports, BI360, Prophix, etc..

They will simply cost you more $$

There isn't one SQL statement that is executed when reports are generated.  There are a series of select statements and stored procedures that are run at the time of generation, along with a number of variables.  This isn't something you could easily take from MR and run in SQL to get similar results.
