I ran check links on the inventory series over the weekend and it stopped about 2 dozen times telling me the item was locked. Now no one was in GP and no external processes were running. What exactly was check links trying to do when this message occurs? What causes check links to pop up with message? If I were to create an application using C# what could I code to emulate this behavior?
Hello Richard,
If no one was in GP and you're getting prompted that an item was locked, there may be sessions that were abandoned. Make sure the tempdb..DEX_LOCK and tempdb..DEX_SESSION have no records before you run check links. You could also make sure no one can login the system while you're processing this. This can be accomplished by setting the databases in single user mode or changing the users' passwords. After your process, you can just supply the users a new password to be changed on their next login.
Hope this helps.
I don't know much about C# coding, so I'll inform the team if they have some input on this for you
Good point. There may not be any SQL locks but left over sessions. That would explain why I could not find any locks.
