Microsoft Dynamics NAV (Archived)

Two tier. Service and SQL Tier encrypted communications problem.

Posted on by 220

I follow some "how to" to configure encryption between a NAV server tier and a SQL server tier.
I created a key and I import it. The key is succesfully created. I set up the NAV service with database credentials.
I cannot connect to DB with the error:

"Message: A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: SSL Provider, error: 0 - The certificate chain was issued by an authority that is not trusted.)"

I cannot find any guide to configure certificate. Dynamics Nav guide does not mention certificates.

Graziano.

    SQL Server 2014.

Both on "No" either 32 and 64 bit. Turn yes the result does not change.

But I think the problem is on NAV side...

What SQL version are you using? What value do you have in ForceEncryption property of SQL server? What value do you have in "Enable trust of SQL server certificate" property of NAV server setup (better, provide your screenshot here).

    Alexander,
you have suggested a guide regarding another question: the client encryption.

My question is: is the certificate used in client encryption the same used in DB encryption?

Now, in my problem envinroment, where is the certificate causes the issue?? I did not installed anything...

I installed a fresh NAV server, a fresh SQL server, followed a guide like this

    https://msdynamicsnavashwinitripathi.wordpress.com/2015/10/30/configuring-sql-server-authentication-in-microsoft-dynamics-nav-2016-part-1/

    and finally got the error.

The question could be: does the thumbprint of a valid certificate in the NAV service help both client encryption and especially DB encryption?
If the answer was yes the guide might be specify to set up the thumbprint of a valid certificates before implement DB encryption...

    Regards,
    Graziano.

This might be an issue, related to SQL connectivity. You need to try to either obtain a trust certificate from trusted authority, or make setting that SQL will use self-signed certificates.
