May not be the correct forum but do you guys have any news regarding the future of MS NAV.

I have heard(from ERP Veterans) that Microsoft will stop support of NAV by 2020. They are going to replace it with Office 365 based new ERP.

If this question should not be here then I apologize in advance but I am worried about our future hence the question

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. We are currently implementing NAV 2017. I am greatly concerned about implementing a new ERP system that has a 3 year lifespan. Especially seeing as we were considering switching to perpetual licensing to get access to app. builder. By my calculations, perpetual needs a 9 year life to be cheaper than subscription. What happens to perpetual licenses if we switch over to D365?

    Hi Sampath,

It is very strange as I have never come across on any legal issues related to colud hosting (In Sri Lanka). Is it something impletemented very recently in Sri Lanka?

There are some practical and legal issues in some countries, my case in Sri Lanka still financial institutes are not allowed to migrate accounts to cloud environment, at the same time if Microsoft dropped on premise support customer will have to move towards an alternative solution than moving to D365

    Hey,

I will say up-to some extent yes you are correct, Dynamics 365 is going to be introduced where it will have a combination of different ERP'S, like Operations from AX, Finance from NAV and like this, and if this happens then C/AL Coding will be overruled by C#.

    Hi,

Even IF Microsoft stop NAV in 2020 (Hopefully they will not) you can still work with O365 as finance area of O365 is completely based on NAV. Plus plenty of new areas will open up with new version.

There has been a good blog article about this: community.dynamics.com/.../nav-2017-roadmap

I personally believe that the main idea is to replace on-prem version with a cloud solution, delivered on SaaS basis. This would require that most of the community would master using Extensions - until that time on-prem version will be supported.
