SQL Server 2014 support

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

We are in the process of consolidating several Navision enviroments, onto the same SQL server.

Its fairly small Navision enviroments, and we have planned for the capacity at the SQL Server.

Its a wide range of Navision / Dynamics NAV versions, spanning from 2009 SP1 to version 2018.

Ive found several articles regarding 2009 SP1 and 2018 versions of Navision, and it seem that all navision versions within this range, should work on SQL Server 2014 Std.

https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/nav/2014/08/11/compatibility-with-sql-server-2014/

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics-nav/system-requirements-for-microsoft-dynamics-nav

I would like to have the SQL Server 2014 running the latest Service Pack, but i cant find any documentation, that states whether if any of the Navision versions, is unsupported on SQL Server 2014 SP2 CU11

Does anyone know a way to find this information, or could provide at link for this?

Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

Thx - thats what i thought.

So in the future, will we be able to upgrade to the latest SQL Service pack, or is there a limit there, that we need to be aware of?

Go without problems, it works (we have customers in the same situation). I mean only that it’s not officially listed in the original 2009 SP1 requirements but it was tested and it works:

    Hi,

What do you mean, by its not supported?

According to the articles that ive found, it seems that it is supported - or am i missing something?

It’s not supported but it works, in many situations you need to manually register xp_ndo.dll. You can find supported versions searching on MSDN website for NAV System requirements.

    Hi,

Thx for the update - very much appreciated.

Just to clarify - so an NAV 2009 SP1, can work with the latest SQL Server 2014 Service pack and Cumulative update - and this will also be the situation in the future?

Where did you find the information, about the Service packs and cumulative updates?

NAV 2009 SP1 in my opinion should have immediately a"technical upgrade" to NAV 2009R2 (just open the database with the new version and convert it). NAV 2009R2 works well with SQL Server 2014, not well with SQL Server 2016.

As long you are on the right version of SQL Server you don't need worry about updates, you can see the below statement for SQL Server requirements

    Service Packs and Cumulative Updates:

Unless explicitly stated, all released Service Packs and Cumulative Updates of the above Microsoft SQL Server versions are supported. It is recommended to always be on the latest released Service Pack and Cumulative Update.
