HI

We need to sync our company Sales DB to Dynamic 365(Sales).
What are the required licenses for this DB sync...?

And also, if we need reporting option, do we need to buy another license as well.?

Currently we have "Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Plan"..!

    Hello DD-12030810-0,

You're looking to synchronize your company's sales database with Dynamics 365 Sales, which involves understanding the licensing requirements for data synchronization and reporting.

Here's a breakdown based on your current "Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Plan":
    1. Data Synchronization Licensing:
    • Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Plan Coverage:
      • Your "Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Plan" provides the core licenses needed for Dynamics 365 Sales functionality, including data storage and basic integration capabilities.
      • This plan generally allows for data integration, but the specific licensing for external databases depends on the method used.
    • Dataverse Integration:
      • If you're synchronizing data directly into Dataverse (the underlying data platform for Dynamics 365), your existing Customer Engagement Plan typically covers this.
      • However, if the external database is extremely large, or has a very high volume of transactions, there could be Dataverse storage or API call limitations.
    • Power Automate Integration:
      • If you're using Power Automate to synchronize data, your existing plan may include basic Power Automate usage.
      • However, if you require premium connectors (e.g., for certain database types) or advanced Power Automate features, you might need additional Power Automate licenses.
      • Also, if you are performing a very high volume of transactions with Power Automate, there could be API limits.
    • Azure Data Factory or Other ETL Tools:
      • If you're using Azure Data Factory or other ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) tools, you'll need the appropriate Azure subscriptions for those services.
      • These tools handle complex data transformations and large-scale data migrations.
    • Dual-write:
      • If you are attempting to use Dual-write between Dynamics 365 Sales and Finance and Operations apps, then those apps require their own licenses.
    2. Reporting Licensing:
    • Dynamics 365 Sales Reporting:
      • Dynamics 365 Sales includes built-in reporting capabilities, such as dashboards and views.
      • Your "Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement Plan" covers these standard reporting features.
    • Power BI Reporting:
      • For advanced reporting and data visualization, you'll likely want to use Power BI.
      • Power BI requires separate licenses:
        • Power BI Pro: For individual users who create and share reports.
        • Power BI Premium: For organizations that need to distribute reports to a large number of users or require advanced features.

      • If you are embedding power bi reports inside of Dynamics 365, then you will need the appropriate power bi licenses.
    • SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS):
      • If you're using SSRS (especially in on-premises scenarios), you'll need SQL Server licenses that include SSRS.
    • Advanced Reporting:
      • If you have very advanced reporting needs, there are 3rd party reporting tools that can be used, and those tools will have their own licensing requirements.

    Key Recommendations:
    • Assess Data Volume and Complexity: Determine the volume and complexity of your data synchronization needs to identify any potential licensing implications.
    • Evaluate Reporting Requirements: Assess your reporting needs to determine if the built-in Dynamics 365 Sales reporting is sufficient or if you require Power BI or other reporting tools.
    • Consult with Microsoft Licensing Specialists: Contact Microsoft or a certified Dynamics 365 partner to discuss your specific requirements and ensure you have the appropriate licenses.
    • Power Platform Licensing: Be aware of the Power Platform licensing model, especially if you're using Power Automate or Power BI.
    • Documentation: Always refer to the official Microsoft Dynamics 365 licensing documentation for the most up-to-date information.

By following these guidelines, you can ensure that you have the necessary licenses for data synchronization and reporting in your Dynamics 365 Sales environment.
