Hi all,
Im wondering what the difference is between marketing lists and segments are and what & when to use either of them.
Since all mailings and customer journeys are started from a Segment, then what are the use of marketing lists?
I want a way for salespeople to add certain contacts to marketing lists, which they can do from the Sales app, but when in the marketing app marketing lists seems to have a minor role?
In a customer journey, you can use segments OR marketing list as well. In the small tile Segment group, then properties, you can select either a segment or a subscription marketing list.
First, you have to click the "X" next to the option sets fields. That clears "Contact" and you can select entity you've added (see image). To add entities -- see this documentation. (Once you add one, you can't remove it, so just add as needed.)
Documentation on ABM is here.
Hi Christian,
what you mean by any entity. When I create segment, I can only see contact entity. Even I am facing issues while selecting contacts for a target but nothing comes up. The workaround i have done so far is to select all contacts where email contains the company name.
Currently, only static Marketing Lists from the Sales app are available for inclusion on a Segment in a Customer Journey, correct?
You need to use Segments in Customer Journey's. There is nothing stopping you using a Marketing List as the basis for a segment (or just a part of it if you Union/Intersect it), that way your Salespeople can still just add contacts to the Marketing list in Sales if they want to.
Is it possible to use both static and dynamic marketing list in a segment?
Audience for Dynamics 365 Marketing customer journeys are based on segments, and subscriptions (marketing lists of type subscription lists in current release).
You can build segments on any entity and their attributes that the admin has marked to be synced to the DCI in the Advanced Settings. With that in mind you can create custom entities that capture the sales person recommendation for inclusion in marketing activities. And you also can reference marketing lists in Segments and select the respective members to be included.
Segmentation is quite flexibel in those scenarios.
But please make sure that contacts have also given the respective consent for communication, just a statement of a sales person might not be sufficient. Subscription mechanics and consent giving it a good traceable way for capturing consent (See more information here).
So you only use Marketing lists as subscription lists in the new marketing app?
Im trying to find a good way for marketing and sales to collaborate, so that an salesperson can add a contact to a marketing list using the ribbon button on the contact card in the Sales app and then Marketing user can do sendouts to those marketing lists in the marketing app.
But in a customer journey I can only choose segment tiles to use as a Target and not Marketing lists.
Do I have to base Segments on marketing lists?
