FS Mobile App: How to capture a customers signature in a work order?

Posted on by 92

Hello,

I am willing to capture the customer's signature in the work order table in the mobile field service app. I researched and found that I should check the table to see if there is a column named signature and add it to the form, but I could not find it.

I read the below blog posts for reference:

https://www.inogic.com/blog/2020/12/capture-photos-signatures-in-dynamics-365-from-field-service-mobile-app/

Can someone help me with my problem by leading me through the signature process in the field service app?

Thank you!

Sure, I can help you with this. Here are the steps to add a signature capture field to the work order table in the Field Service Mobile App:

    1. Open the Field Service Mobile App.

    2. Navigate to the "Settings" menu and select "Forms."

    3. Find the "Work Order" form and select "Edit."

    4. Select "Add Field" and choose "Option Set" from the list.

    5. In the "Option Set" settings, enter "Signature" as the display name and "signature" as the logical name.

    6. Save the option set and return to the form editor.

    7. Select "Add Section" and choose "Field Section."

    8. Drag the "Signature" option set from the right-hand pane to the new section on the left-hand side.

    9. Save the form changes and publish them to the Field Service Mobile App.

Once these steps are complete, the signature capture field should be available on the Work Order form in the Field Service Mobile App. When the technician completes the work order, they can use the signature field to capture the customer's signature. The signature data will then be saved in the work order record in Dynamics 365.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you have any further questions.

Please check which form you added the Signature control. Some forms might not be enabled on the App Module you use.

    Hi MZB,

The name of the control is Pen input:

Make sure that the data type is Multiple Lines of TExt:

    Hello,

I want to add a signature field on the work order form. I added a multiline text field to the form. When I wanted to add the pen control to the field, I couldn't find it either in the classic UI or in the new one.

Is there a step I am missing?

    Thank you.

    Hi Mzb,

depends what your asking for, if you want a signature on the work order entity one doesnt exist you would have to create a text field for it, but the signature field that the blog is refering to does exist under the related entity bookableresourcebooking ( or work order schedule as it is also known as) not on the work order entity itself. Soooo:

    • If You are using the 'out the box' form for field service app. the blog is correct in where its showing you. the signature box is in the notes tab on the form 'Booking and Work Order'
      • but as mentioned above the form is not a work order form, its a form that exists under the work order schedule entity (or bookableresourcebooking) its a form that pulls data from the work order and the 'schedule' etc. and compiles it in a user freindly way, for the app user.
      • The field is named signature the logical name is msdyn_signature.
      • it is a normal text field in crm/field service, but on the form it uses a specific control. instead of Text Area it uses Pen Control, which then changes the look to allow you to scribble.

    • With the above in mind, if your building your own form and/or your own signature field
      • then when you add the field to your form, you will need to switch to classic editor, so you can edit the 'field properties' and under the 'Control' tab add the 'pen control'

    hope this helps

    Hi Partner,

Based on the blog you provided above, the signature column is in the 'Bookable Resource Booking' table.

Through my search, the column is indeed in this table:
