Hi Guys,

I have a problem in how to filter the records in columns using the grid.  I have a columns A and Column B in Grid A, when I choice in column A it will filter the records in Column B. Let say I have a Toyota selected in column A but when I select column B it would filter the data belongs to Toyota like Vios, Fortuner, Prius. Do you have any idea?

Thank you for reply.

Regards,

CJ

Yes, you are right overriding the lookup. I done now based on the relationship.

    Thank you so much martin.

Ah, now I understand. You are asking about lookup, not filtering.

I didn't actually even understand that in your initial post you described how you would like something to work. I thought that you described how something works wrong.

    Anyway.

The lookup is populated based on table relations. Check what kind of relation you have defined from your table to the "Asset parent". Perhaps it doesn't contain all fields that you intended

In addition to that, you can override the lookup method of your form data source field and develop your custom logic there. Search the web for dynamics ax x++ lookup.

    Hi Martin,

I have an Asset Parent, this is referring to the asset management module. I have an asset parent related to the asset installation which are the columns are serial number, manufacturer, model and etc. But my requirement when I am going to select the manufacturer it will going to filter the model column. Please see the screenshot related the Manufacturer and Model.

    Thank you for your support.

It seems to me that your data model violates the second normal form. Manufacture is a property of model, not of serial number.

If you switch to a normalize data model, you'll select just a model. You can use manufacturer to find the model, but you won't duplicate the information in the table with serial numbers.

Note that you can still show both fields, if you use the surrogate key for the link and two fields in the reference group replacing the surrogate key in GUI.

I still don't understand. I don't see any filtering happening in the screenshot.

To me it seems that you are editing the Manufacturer field, and you clicked the lookup icon on that field. So it shows a list of values that you can assign to Manufacturer field.

    Hi Nikolaos,

I have the screen shot below. When I select the manufacturers column it will filter the model column.

Thank you for your effort and response.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Could you perhaps illustrate it with some screenshots?

By the way, is your question about Dynamics AX or Dynamics 365 Finance? You posted in AX forum.
