Hi Community!
Will each minor / major patches from Microsoft Dynamics 365 (SaaS) be automatically deployed on all environments (Dev/SIT/UAT/Prod)? Or can we manage patches via SDLC, meaning deploying on Dev, Sit, etc.. This will allow us to better manage the risk of the patch breaking existing features in Prod.
Thanks in advance!
Hey.
Patch/fix deployment happen will happen constantly and is controlled by Microsoft. On https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/policies-communications#scheduled-system-updates-and-maintenance you can read:
"Microsoft regularly performs updates and maintenance on the service and apps through a weekly update process. This update process delivers security and minor service improvements on a weekly basis, with each update rolling out region-by-region according to a safe deployment schedule, arranged in Stations."
However, there are a couple interesting features:
- Each region (North America, South America, Japan, France, Europe, UK, etc) has different deployment hours, as you can read on https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/policies-communications#maintenance-timeline
- Also, from https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/released-versions/Microsoft-Dataverse#latest-version-availability you'll see that Dynamics updates are deployed by "stations", where each station comprises several regions. Station 2 (South America, Canada, india, France, South Africa, Germany, Switzerland) receives the latest version first.
- Depending on your production hours and availability, Customers can change at which time your Production environments will be updated. This is controlled from Power Platform Admin Center and this is documented on https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/manage-maintenance-window
