Smart List - Column Formatting - Commas

Posted on by 1,599

My client is on GP2018.  I've recently created a new Smartlist based off of a SQL view.  A few columns are numeric and within the smartlist designer was able to assign formatting options including a currency code and 2 decimal places to those columns.  That said I do not see a formatting option to also include commas.  Is that possible with the Smartlist designer?

Please advise.  Thank you.

    Hey JG-

Thank you for taking the time to provide clarification on what you are doing and looking for.

I've done some research on this and found that there is not a means within GP to specify whether a comma can/will be used within a SmartList.

The additional Format box is only available via a currency field to allow end users to select decimal places and a currency symbol.

Please let me know if you have further questions around this.

Wishing you a wonderful day ahead!

    Hello Nicole,

    Perhaps this will help.

The smartlist is built off of a custom SQL view.  The SQL View is a simple "select * from tablex" where tablex contains a number of numeric fields.  The view properly interprets the numeric fields as numeric.

Then, within Smart List if one chooses to modify the list on the top left hand corner that opens up the "Smart List Designer" window.  The next to the individual fields, next to the numeric fields there is yet another option to open a format window.  From there one can choose a currency symbol and assign decimal places to the field.  For example $1000.00.  The format window does not have an option to also display commas.  $1,000.00.

Is that possible with the smart list designer?  Please advise.  Thank you.

    Hey JG,

    Thank you for your post!

Thank you Beat for your response as well.

I am sorry for the misunderstanding, but when I run just the build in Payables Transaction SmartList, I see comma's leveraged in my Trx Amount column, and when reviewing the SQL query there isn't anything noticeable that defines a comma to be used.

Would you be willing to share further details about that value you are trying to add onto a SmartList using your custom SQL View?

Are you experiencing when using this SQL View as a SmartList there is no comma?

I look forward to your reply!

Wishing you a marvelous day ahead.

    Hello Beat,

We are OK with the decimals.  The Smartlist designer has formatting options that address both decimals and currency.  Our issue is that the designer does not seem to have a formatting option to address commas.

Is that available within the Report Designer.  The fields in question are numeric and interpreted as numeric by the Smartlist tool.  Let me know what you think?  Thanks!

    Hi,

Could you please elaborate a little bit on the source of the data which is supposed to come out as decimal fields ? By default, many fields in GP are not stored with decimals, but rather have a separate column to define how many decimals need to be applied to the numeric value in order to present it correctly in GP's form or reports.

Your problem might be related to the fact that a numeric value you're trying to pull from a table does in fact have no decimals.
