Installing Dynamics AX 2009 with Sql Server 2012

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hello,

After istalling AX 2009 on a machine with Sql Server 2012, I can't start the AOS service. The cause of the error can be found in the Events log:

Object Server 01: SQL diagnostics: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified. Connect information was: Userid = [], Database = [MicrosoftDynamicsAx], Server = [VMDEV65GRR], DSN = [], Other = []

Then I installed the SP1, the hotfix RU8, and restored the database ContosoBaseDemoDataAx2009.bak  that I found in the Customer Source site. But it's still impossible to start the AOS, for the same error.

I read that this can depend on the Sql server Odbc drivers: I have following Odbc drivers: Sql Server, Sql Server Native Client 10.0 and Sql Server Native Client 11.0.

I would be grateful if anybody had this same problem and could share some knowledge with me.

Best regards,

Tino

I found out the cause of this issue. I was installing from a C# application, launching a dos command. In this way, the check for the install prerequisites was not done. But the setup log said that the installation succeeded, so I didn't bother about prerequisites. With a manual installation it works well, after installing DHTML editing components etc.

    Thank you again

    Hi Tino

I suggest you, to go through a fresh installation of AX 2009 SP1 + RU8 also follow the tips above.

Finally, when all work fine, try to restore the Demo Datata from Microsoft.

I'm using AX 2009 SP RU8 with Windows Server 2012 Datacenter and SQL Server 2012 SP1.

No I just ask because  the only thing that I miss is SP1 in SQL server, I'll make the test with this too.

Do you have SQL Server 2012 SP1?

The solution is in one of the comments in the page reported by Martin:

    blogs.technet.com/.../announcing-compatibility-certification-of-sql-server-2012-and-sql-server-2012-sp1-with-dynamics-ax-2009-sp1.aspx

The comment says that "AX 2009 SP1 is currently not supported on Windows 2012 Server". My OS is WS 2012.

Than you all for your help.

Hi Martin, to answer your question, no it didn't work before the db restore. I have just installed the compatibility hotfix but the error is the same.

    Hi Denis,

Yes I installed everything in RU8, and in the event viewer there is only the error that I mentioned before.

    Thank you,

    Tino

Sorry the link is this one:

    mbs2.microsoft.com/.../KBDisplay.aspx

but I don't think it is my case because I didn't install AS nor RS.
