Hello all. We have been having a lot of issues with GP lately. Mostly it involves stuck processes. We constantly have to end task to get out of GP and we have processes that don't finish.
Our vendor keeps saying that the GP client appears to not finish loading on client PC's which causes other processes to hang up. They think there is a performance issue with our GP server, but we just don't see it. We tested the network performance with iperf and it was fine. We are now starting to monitor CPU usage. We only have 5 users and it is rare that more than 2-3 users are using GP at the same time. Our server is a VM with 4 cores running SQL 2016. We recently updated SQL to the latest SP and CU and doubled the server RAM to 32GB. The user end points are a mix of VM's, modern laptops (wired connections) and modern desktops. We have a fast network with minimal latency.
Has anyone else seen issues like this? It of course has always happened on occasion. It seemed like late last year it was happening more often, and since we updated GP to the latest 2018 version in January, it happens all the time.
Thanks.
I thought Risk Management from Merit Sol. was for Dynamics 365.
Try going to Tools->Customize->Customization Status and disabling all the third-party products and then add them back by one to see if you can isolate what is causing the issue.
Something seems to be stopping the GP initialization process. Good idea to disable your anti-virus software as well.
The Startup Group should appear in the upper left-hand corner of the GP home page.
Do you have GP installed on the SQL server with all the 3rd party products? Any issue? Is Risk Management an end-point security or a GP 3rd party product? If it is an security product, try to exclude GP folder on the server & client. If it is a GP 3rd party product, you can try Dexsql or xperf from Windows Performance Kit.
You can also just install a vanilla GP client and see if there is any issue, then add one 3rd party at a time to see which one cause the performance issue, beside Risk management the rest are common GP 3rd party products.
Hope it helps you.
Rob
Thanks for the reply Richard. Yes, all users have this issue.
We use the following third party add-ons:
Risk Management from Merit Sol.
Advanced Smartlist
Smartlist Builder
Mekorma MICR.
Not sure what you mean by Startup group, not even after Googling it. Sorry, I am an IT guy, not an actual GP user.
Below is one example of what we have seen lately in the process Monitor. Our support vendor keeps saying that GP does not finish loading and is pointing at our GP server, but our support vendor for IT cannot find anything wrong with the server, nor can I.
Do all your users experience this issue? Do you have any third party products? What do you have in your GP startup group? If you look at the GP Process Monitor does it list anything? There could a myriad of things causing this. Please report back what you find.
