Item Journal Entries

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

I am trying to get Financials up and running from a  clean start. We have just  done a stock take and set up the locations  set up Categories etc  ready to upload to Financials.

I have did a test using the Import tool in assist and it worked  but when I go to do it for real it does not work . It says that the records are loaded but they do not appear in Items.

The other issue is that it  does not allow me to add Stock totals and Location . This is done in the items journal   but I have 1000 items how can we automate  doing the location and totals s in a Batch Journal Entry ?

Hello we are getting this error when we try to save a new item in excel template.  Did you solve for this?

    Hi Jkindred,

No. I have not heard back on this and I still have the same "Data object not provided" error.

    Thanks,

    Thank you!

That's a poor answer . You are expecting me to  load over  a 1000 items  by doing 1000 journal entries. The adjust stock on the item card does not allow you to enter totals from 0 as it needs to see a journal entry  that's what double entry book keeping is all about . You should be able to enter a reference for the auditor to see , which you do on the  item  journal entries.

Basically you have release this product with out the concept of small business using spreadsheets etc .  Even if I could load the data I am restricted to fields so I cant load at the same time the Vendot ID  and the Catogary or even location and qty . That is because the people involved in this system have never implemented or been in the field to implement .

    I will struggle on .

    Hi Louisthehun,

While there is no official Edit in Excel function for the Item Journal, there is an easy way to do this without using an add-on. It simply requires the use of the Microsoft Dynamics Office Add-In in Excel, which is the same tool that the Edit in Excel functionality uses.

You will need to create a Web Service for the Item Journal page (from the Web Services page, click on New, Object Type = Page, Object ID = 40, and give it a unique service name like ItemJournalWS, and click Publish, and click in another row), and then utilize that information in the Microsoft Dynamics Office Add-In in Excel.

I tried to record a short video but ran into an issue with it today when attempting to publish records (keep getting a 'data object not provided' error). I know that it worked just a week or two ago because that's how we imported all the Item quantities and balances for our most recent client.

    Hello.

It looks like you have another post regarding the Import Tool giving you a message that records are loaded:

In this post I will answer your additional question about Stock Totals and Location.

Regarding totals and location, yes you could do this through an Item Journal or there is an Adjust Inventory button on the Item Card that will list out your sites and allow you to update quantities for the sites and will post the necessary entries.

We currently don't have a way to automate this or import in Item Journals, but I have heard there are some 3rd parties that help make it easy to import into Dynamics 365 for Financials using Web Services. A few have been mentioned on some Forum posts, I have seen SmartConnect and Don Decarlo software mentioned.
