Unable to create dynamic segment based on source campaign

Hi everyone,

With regard to an upcoming event (trade fair), I am trying to build several dynamic segments based on source campaigns. The source campaign being the event, but with different follow-up requirements. Goal: put these separate segments in a mail journey, so the right leads immediately receive the right content after the trade fair.

Unfortunately, it does not seem to work. Is 365 for Marketing able to create dynamic segments from source campaigns in CRM and if so, how am I able to do that?

I am looking forward to your solutions, answers, or workarounds. Thank you in advance.

Kind regards,

Luc

Thank you, activating "campaign" in the settings did it for me.

    Hi Luc,

In Dynamics 365 for Marketing, you can set any entity as start point, but final target could be only contacts.

If your source campaign means Event, then you can build a dynamic segment like this:

    8233.png

Because each registration from registration form will generate an Event Registration record,

you can find both its revelant event and contact from this type of entity, and add other criteria based on it,

it could be viewed as a connection between Event and Contacts.

And as you found Contact -> Event(Originating event) relationship in the segment, Originating event field for contacts from Event page will be populated automatically when the record created,

thus we can identify them from CRM created contacts or landing page created contacts, due to this feature, we could even add other custom field for contact entity and populate it with a workflow when a contact record from Event is created to have more specific identification.

Above are my per understanding, if ithey are not appropriate for your business requirement, please let me know you real demand and any screenshot with problems possible.

If you just want to filter related contacts from leads who has specific source campaign,

you could build a segment like below:

Thats by find their Parent contact on Business Flow Process.

RE: Unable to create dynamic segment based on source campaign

    Hello Luc,

in Dynamics 365 Marketing you can build Segments that identify leads that come from a certain sales campaign, indicated by the field "Source Campaign"

Leads that have been generated by automated customer journeys would set field "Source Journey" instead. Automation would generate a Lead (as the expression of interest) of a member of your audience (a contact) and set the "Parent Contact" field.

But you can build a segment for both cases - but please remember that segmentation be related to the lead - the "Primary Contact" is the typical pattern.

Then you can build a segment that filters leads based on the  "Source Campaign" or "Source Journey" and the identifies the lead's "Parent Contact" to be returned in the segment.

This is how it looks in the new segmentation UI (in preview) for a segment looking at Primary contacts of leads with a certain Source campaign if you desire to start filtering from Contact:

Please also remember to activate the "Campaign" entity in the advanced settings (if you want indeed to build a segment base on "Source Campaign" and not "Source Customer Journey") and press the Publish Changes" button.
