AX 4.0 Transit Time

Is there any way in AX 4.0 to set time after the product is complete to ship to an offsite warehouse and have planning consider this?Example: I need to have product arrive in Spain in January (specific sku's). The transit time is 45 days. I need AX to show needing the raw material, capacity and the 45 day carrying cost of the product to complete production mid November. I have been able to get the planned production order to show starting early by updating the coverage group and the reorder safety margin, but when I look at the capacity and material they show as being needed 45 days later.

Can someone help with the setting for this or at least where I could do more testing? Thank

    Kevin,

Have you tried the "Queue time after" or "Transit time" fields in the Route?  I pretty sure Queue time after will accomplish what you're looking for - Transit time sounds like the right field but I've never used it, so ???

PS: Note the Hours/time field: if it is .0167 then the time unit is minutes and to get 45 days you'd have to enter 64800 (45 days * 24 hours/day * 60 minutes/hour).

Thanks, by putting a time in the queue time after it worked on calendar days and the transit time (uses the working times on the calendar). This corrected the capacity and raw material need dates. It still shows as the order being completed on the due date in Spain (45 days after the actual completion date). I believe this is due to the information being in the route not on the item. Any idea on how to get the inventory to show up as being completed when it actually is planned in the capacity plan?

This has been a great help Thanks!

    Hi Kevin,

Have you considered using the Transport days in AX?

Go to Inventory management > Setup > Distribution > Transport. The form allows you to set up 45 days for transport from the production facility to Spain. AX will use these days when calculating the requested ship date based on requested delivery date minus transport days. How do you define the demand - as pure transfer orders or planned transfer orders based on sales orders or something else? Thansport days surely work with transfer orders.

The setting is not item-specific but it is specific for a each pair of warehouses or it can even be defined for each mode of delivery.

When you are setting this up, pay attention to the "shipping point" and "receiving point" - both must be "warehouse".

Let me know if that works for you.

I am getting most of my demand by forecast. I see how this works with a transfer order but I have been unable to get the system to generate these as a planned transfer order. I think this under item coverage by changing the planned order type to transfer but i am unable to change this field. The drop down does not drop down; can this be a rights issue? I have admin rights to all except financials. Thanks

    Hi Kevin,

Check the inventory dimension group settings for these items. If you want to use planned transfer orders, you must enable "Coverage plan by dimension" for the Warehouse dimension. Then the drop-down field will get activated.

Now, usually changes to inventory dimension groups are tricky but my experience shows that changing the coverage by dimension only is a harmless change and AX allows it. You can try this in a test envronment.

This has implications on the whole MRP process so be careful with that.

Hi George, I went to the dimension group through the item wanted in a test environment, under the storage dimensions, under the warehouse in the coverage plan by dimension was not checked (also not checked for batch number and location which are active). Is this where I should be selecting this box? I could not (by selecting one or all three) get the item coverage to allow me to change the planned order type to transfer under item coverage. I could not get my print screen to attach here so I emailed this to you a screen shot to show my current settings. Any help on this is appreciated.
