We recently lost our IT person and I am new to Great plains so trying to find answers

when In payroll I am commiting time for a new employee I am getting a error code that says " The State code is not assigned to the employee" does anyone know where to go to fix? I have looked at everything to try to figure it out

Good job, glad you found it because I was running out of ideas. Keep this thought as you continue working with GP. Making a change to a master record does not flow those changes down to existing transactions. The best you have for that would would be to use employee classes but even there only certain fields will flow down.

I just figured it out!! after 2 hours of searching and some of your recommendations made me start looking other places  ( i am not a computer program person by any means!! )

i happened to open his uncommitted batch and when I   clicked on his first entry then i clicked options up top and went to edit payroll fields and i noticed the state was wrong in that screen!! i think our HR person originally entered it wrong but when she changed it on the employee card it must have already saved it to his time waiting to be committed

once i changed it to the right state all worked

    thanks for all your help

When on the employee card did you click the Project button and then click OK?

Also, when on the Employee Maintenance screen for this new employee, click the Go To button and then Tax Information. Set the Tax Withholding State default value for future data entry. You can also do this by Cards->Payroll->Tax.

i am actually trying to commit his time, transactions-time track-time card commit

time has been entered on time card entry with time and job #

so now need to commit the batch to post time to job and then into the payroll batch

If so, after you enter the employee's time, if you click the More Detail icon do you see a state there? This icon is in the upper right-hand corner of the grid. Looks like two arrows pointed downward.
