I find that I can edit all fields on Active products . and when I clone an Active product the status is set to Active (Maybe it should be draft?)
I have the same question (0)

yes it's normal you can edit active product, but you can't edit active Quotes you can edit them in the status draft.

'normal' means that CRM allows me to do that, but I don't think it seems right. Once a product is Activated you should have to use the Revise function to change it. Why would that be needed if you can just go in and edit an Active product anyway.

ok in that case your right it doesn't seem right to chage a product knowing it's already used in other entities but it s easy to configure it as you like

'Easy to configure'? I should mention we have our Product entity configured with possibly 100 custom fields. Do you have an idea on how to make that easy?

    Hi GrizzlyGlen

Following is the behavior of product statuses:

    Status: Draft / Retired:

A product in draft status will not be available to add as line item in opportunity / quote / order

    Status: Active:

A product in active status will be available to add as line item in opportunity / quote / order

Out of the box "Status" field in product doesn't have nay control over editing. User can edit it.

When you clone a product in Active Status, the cloned product will be created in draft status. Product should be published to make it in active status.

Thankyou, I was puzzled for a while why our Products were being created in Active status, then I was reminded there is a System Settings (under Sales settings) that can override the default and always create new (or cloned) products in Active status. I still don't think you should be able to edit an Active product but I will work on a script to control this.
